Drew Shelby
Senior Project Scientist
What do you like to do outside of work?
I like to spend as much time with my family as possible. Working on projects around the house, day trips to coastal Maine with the dogs, and playing golf. My son (15) and I are currently restoring a 1960 17-ft Lyman Runabout, which is a wooden (mahogany) power boat originally built in Sandusky, Ohio. There is a lot of detail work which is teaching both of us the art of patience to achieve the best finish.
What are some things most people wouldn’t know about you?
I inherited an interest in genealogy from my grandfather and have spent countless hours reviewing his research into the Shelby family history. His research traced our family tree to Isaac Shelby, the first and fourth governor of Kentucky, and to Jo Shelby, a confederate general in the Civil War, who never surrendered but instead teamed up with Frank and Jesse James in Mexico.
Why did you choose Nobis?
Like many others here at Nobis, I had worked on projects with the Nobis team at a previous company. I was impressed with the strong work ethic and company culture exhibited during that time and felt that I would like to become part of it when the opportunity became available.
What are you working on right now?
I am currently filling the role of Quality Control Supervisor on the Elizabeth Mine Superfund Project in South Strafford, VT. I am responsible for ensuring that the activities performed at the site are in accordance with the plans and specifications. The role includes daily inspections of the work product and reporting through documentation and submittals that the work complies or requires re-work before acceptance.
